Research Spotlight on...Engineering in the Early Years
These virtual sessions are offered free to the sector and will support the commitment to offer high quality experiences for our youngest children whilst learning from colleagues.
Early years engineering is of increasing interest to both the Scottish government and researchers.
In this session we will explore the latest research including the benefits of early years engineering, and advice and recommendations for how to implement this in practice.
We will cover what exactly engineering is and different approaches to introduce and engage young children in engineering. We are also interested in hearing your views and experiences so there will be time for discussion. Finally we will highlight how you can get involved in an ongoing research project, through testing of new engineering activities like experiments, games, stories, songs and even circus skills.
Dr Helen Bridle of Heriot-Watt is an engineer, applying microscale technology to human health challenges. She is an EPSRC funded Engagement Champion leading a project to develop and trial a range of resources and activities for 3-7 year olds. She is also in charge of a Royal Academy of Engineering Ingenious award with Nurture the Play, introducing engineering to 2-5 year olds.
For her research it would be really helpful if you could fill out the following survey (whether you are coming to the session or not) asking about your views on engineering: https://forms.office.com/r/UdV8A2PrEA
