Moth Trapping Evening
Join us for a fantastic evening of moth spotting at the beautiful Hay Bridge Nature Reserve. Challenge the experts to identity the many different moths as they land. (All moths will be released unharmed the following morning).
Come out with us (if you dare!) into the dark, for an amazing experience watching moths being attracted into traps by ultra-violet light. We will also be experimenting with a few alternative methods, using wine ropes and sugar solutions, to encourage the moths to feed, allowing us to observe them in situ. Using different methods means we can attract a wider variety of moth species.
Intrigued? Come along and find out more, it will be a fascinating way to spend a Saturday evening.
Due to the nights being shorter around this time of year, we won’t be switching on the traps until after 10.30pm. If conditions are good, be prepared to stay until the early hours, up to 1am* is possible, but a late night isn’t obligatory!
