For our first Parent Talk of the academic year we welcome back Edward Watson, Founder and Director of InnerDrive.
In this talk Edward will explore how the brain works when studying and key myths about studying that students can fall into:
Multi-tasking
• Why multi-tasking is so hard
• Why multi-tasking stops students from learning effectively
Memory
• The brain’s limitations when remembering lots of information
• Explore key study skills like retrieval practice and spacing
Sleep
• Why students struggle to get enough sleep
• The psychological consequences of not getting enough sleep
• The 9 commons sleep mistakes that students should avoid
Organisation
• The conscious brain has a limited amount of mental energy
• How to help students avoid procrastination
Managing stress
• Why students struggle to read emotions effectively
• How to manage and handle stressful situations
After graduating from Oxford, seven years in the army and an MBA, Edward founded InnerDrive in 2006 as a teaching and learning coaching company that helps people develop the right mindsets to do well at school, in business, in sport and in life.
Over the past 16 years, Edward has designed and delivered student workshops, parent workshops and teacher CPD for hundreds of schools in the UK and around the world. He is the co-author of “The Science of Learning- 99 Studies Every Teacher Needs to Know', “The Science of Learning- 77 Studies Every Parent Needs to Know”, 'Release your Inner Drive' and 'Teaching and Learning Illuminated'
